Merry Christmas Eve (Eve)!!!!

‘Twas the night before (the night before) Christmas…

Yep, that’s right folks! Only two more days until the madness that is the Holiday season, and that got me thinking. Isn’t the season before any holiday considered the “Holiday Season”? Why should Christmas get all the special attention? Why can’t we call late January to late February the “Holiday Season”? I mean, you have Valentines Day AND Presidents day in there!

      Anywillywonkaways….

I got all my shopping done, all the presents are wrapped, and all the greetings have been written. All I have to do is pack for Seattle and an EPICLY EPIC ski trip. It’ll be the most EPIC-ER OF THE EPIC-EST EPIC THINGS.

(The reason the word “epic” came up so many times up there, is because hate the word epic. It’s way to overused online, and since I’m, you know, an uber l337 internet user the word is bound to get old sometime…right?)

On a completely different note, what are you hoping ‘ol Saint Nick will bring for you? I’m hoping to get this one computer game, some makeup brushes, and an iTunes gift card.

But you know what I’m REALLY excited for? Seeing all the family. I know that sounds cliché, but since I live by approximately 0 members of my extended family, it’s exciting to see everyone!

So to everybody reading this blog (assuming your my family…) I’ll se all of you tomorrow/Thursday!!!

xox,

amelia

P.S. Does the voice inside your HEAD YELL WHEN YOU SEE CAPS LOCK? It’s something I’VE NOTICED recently with me, and I don’t want to be alone…anyone?

How to Make a Gingerbread House (Amelia and Dad Edition)

If you’re going to be making a gingerbread house this holiday season, there are a few things you need to know.

  1. Icing

The icing that comes in the kit is extremely, addictively AMAZING. However, If not properly put in the icing bag, it will result in using near an entire roll of paper towels.

   2. Assembling the base

Please make sure that you are not using the roof panels as walls. This will result in you having to take apart most of your house and starting over. This is not an enjoyable process.

   3. Decoration

HAVE A ROUGH IDEA OF HOW YOU WANT TO DECORATE. Mkay? Kay. Otherwise, your Christmas trees end up looking like smushy shrubs.

   4. Candy Consumption Moderation

Don’t eat too much of the candy it comes with. That stuff is delicious, but it may become addicting, resulting in lost decor for your house.

I’m jus’ sayin’.

Gloves.

My day started off at 4:15 in the morning. Knowing that people actually get up that early on a regular basis almost makes me sick. So I got out of bed, slapped my alarm and thought ahead to what the day held for me:

A trip to Portland, Oregon. A day full of shopping, ice skating, temperatures that make polar bears put on mittens, and icy sidewalks.

Having to be at Miller at 5:20(yes, 5:20. *shudders*) was rather annoying, but I do have to say I was excited to get the ball rolling. After all, I was on assignment from Miss Swinhart to take pictures. The yearbook needed me to be bright and chipper!

Granted the second I sat down on one of the bus seats I fell asleep.

     *Three Hours Later*

So all 58 of us got off of the large, crowded, yellow, smelly, (insert adjective here) bus, and it is FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!! Luckily, I had a coat. Sadly, Amy did not. Luckily, Morgan let me wear hers due to the fact she is never cold. Like…ever.

The street fair was really fun! I got some of Christmas shopping done, and IU got to look at some of the *hem-hem* lovely hand–crafted items for sale.

Then we hopped on the train and went to the Lloyd Center for more shopping and ice skating! I didn’t do hardly any shopping there because I was so enchanted by skating!! I started off like any n00b skater, clutching the rail for dear life, but by the end of the THREE hours I could skate pretty well (granted the few blisters and insane soreness to follow)!

Then the group got back on the bus, and we made it home to Miller around 9pm. All in all, I’d go back any day! …Just not at 4 in the morning.

Chart Jackers!!

Errr…should I be concerned?

Nope! Just watch this video:

Yes. Listen to Hank. He is wise.

Quite honestly, the song “I’ve Got Nothing” by Chart Jackers has been stuck in my head since I heard it. It’s probably the cheesiest pop song of the century, but it’s for a good cause, right?   http://tinyurl.com/CJBuySong

Have good day! (And brave this crummy weather :( )

Sick.

     I very much dislike sickness.

Yesterday, my school got the H1N1 nasal spray/vaccine. I do not think this is what caused me to be sick. I’ve been feeling crummy for a little while. It’s mainly just a sore throat and fever. But not to be a Debby Downer, I’ve come across a new hobby: editing pictures to look awesome.

m_6c2b7281ea3345eeb3d8f6aa3a8c26f8[1] m_cf3642adf7aa44b5b6cec5fd3cd370ed[1] m_56483c9e4f434844ab5c30f5c203eb11[1]

     So that’s what’s happening. Toodle-oo!

The Power’s Out.

You know what’s lame? Sitting at home with no light except for the few candles that cover about a square foot in light. At least I have my laptop and Windows Writer though, right? Blogging can be just as fun with no lights. Pull up a new window, type about your life while Owl City’s latest hit plays in the background sounds like a pretty sweet deal to me.

According to the radio, the transformer line blew. The Grays Harbor PUD is working on getting it back by later tonight. But while I pass the time, I’ve got my iPod and a good old “An Abundance of Katherines” by John Green. On that note, John Green is my new favorite adolescent author. Well, he isn’t adolescent, but his works fits us nicely. In fact, I’d recommend “An Abundance of Katherines” to just about anyone.

On a completely different note, isn’t this picture of me and Morgan hilarious? meanddmorgan2

We were trying to take a nice picture at the Central Park Elementary School Halloween Carnival (we’ll call it CPESHC) as we worked at fun game stations. But, once I clicked the camera button, she moved, I glared, this happened. It’s truly a work of beauty, eh?

Mom’s birthday is on Sunday. Yay for birthdays! Can I get a what what?! *What What!!*

I’m now on facebook! Hoorah! You can find me on my mom’s profile, or you can just search for me :) I’d love to have you as a friend!

Whee!!!! The power’s back on! Just shows you that blogging about senseless schtuff is a great way to pass the time! Talk to you later,

     xoxo,

Amelia<3

Fall Harvest

Ah, Fall. Autumn. The season of technicolor foliage. And apples. Lots.

We have this insano-massive apple tree in our backyard that usually produces a decent crop of organic apples.

So with rakes and mad skillz, Dad and I got on the roof and gathered two bucket fulls of delicious apples.

Mom also had some luck in the gardening area with her green beans and zucchini.

But noting on this earth is better than Dad's apple pie.
I'm just sayin'.

Cross Country: Miller Edition

As you may know, I recently decided to do running-related sports, like Track. But today: Cross Country started.

So did football and soccer, but that's beside the point.

When Mom and I arrived at Miller Jr. High, there were at least 65 people standing outside of the gym doors, which made me think about just how big the team would be. When Coach Harless called for football, about 35% of the people left and followed him to the field. But then it happened: Coach Gucci (No, that's not her real name.) called for soccer. Approximately--i ain't no math wiz'rd--61% percent of the remaining people left, leaving five aspiring athletes left. Me included, of course.

Just as practice began, the final three members came. Then our coach Mr. Dove led us the the grass and, yuh know...stretched and stuff. Then we ran. A lot. Well, some people would laugh and call us sissies, but after a mile and a half in the semi-groomed terrain of behind the track fence and around the school, i was ready to drink up all of the Chehalis River. Granted it'd been purified and flavored with lemon.

Needless to say, I'm ready to go back tomorrow. And the day after that. And that. And that...

Life's A Beach

Ah, Washington. The freezing grayish/blue water. The warm, rocky sand. The pieces of driftwood strewn about. The ease of driving from point A to point B. The fact that all this is a mere 25 minutes away.

Today, my best friend Morgan and I traveled to Westport to visit the lovely beaches of western Washington. I must say, jumping over waves, skipping sand dollars in the still, warm pools of water, and racing through the sand is fun all of the time. And while I love building sand mounds and sipping flat Dr. Pepper, there's always a downside.

It has to end.

Eh.

That's all I can say about this summer (so far). Eh. Granted I've had a fun camping trip, I've been to the beach, but...eh. It's like a broken record: wake up, eat, play computer, assorted chores, more computer, more food, sleep. I NEED A DE-STATUS QUO-IFICATION!

And I think I've found it.

I may or may not be in love with Harry Potter. YES I've only read the first three books and saw the first three movies, but that;s not stopping me. Once I find the fourth book, that's all I'll be talking about.

On a different note, I MUST apologize for the lack of posts. There;s just no excuse. I'll try to post more often :)

It's a Memory :)

Ah, yearbooks. A whole year forever preserved in book form. (Please note my AWESOME socks at the head of this picture.)

The mug shots.Blech. Massive blech. Figures, my picture is next to the most POPULAR girl in school. It's karma, I TELL YOU! (hahaha :) just kidding. Hi, Kenzie.)

It's not a yearbook without the band!

Or the athletes.

OR the girl that falls asleep while finishing an English assignment.

Oh, you know what's coming.

The over-achievers.

And the popular people who win twice. Pssht...

OH! Autographs. Lots and lots of autographs.

Yeah.This here is BOOK GOLD. I'm tellin' you, homies...sorry, I couldn't resist :)

The Reason I Have a Slight Limp

Track practice started on Tuesday! Well, I guess it actually started on Monday, but I didn't get my sports physical until Tuesday morning. I couldn't practice until I got that taken care of :(. Aside from that, I'm having an awesome time! I love, love,LOVE the hurdles and the high jump!
Duh statement of the post: In track, you run...a lot. More than I find enjoyable. The coaches (mainly Miss McElliot)are making us sprint, run, and jump until crawling is the only not-painful way to move, just to see who is going to quit. their little trap worked on like, 12 people. However, they wont be getting rid of ME so easily.
OH!! Before I forget, the pictures of me at KCTS9 can be found:

This weekend Mom and I traveled up to Seattle again, but this time it was for a writing seminar! I entered a contest for extra credit in English class, so you can imagine my surprise when I was told my story won!
There were about 30 winners there, several types of writiers, and 1 published author. http://www.kevinemerson.net <---- click here to check out Kevin Emerson's website.
As a group we wrote a short story, had an awesome lunch, and got to play with a green screen. I'll upload some pictures when one more comes in, so look for those!

what to type, what to type...

As you can probably tell by my lack of a decent title, I'm suffering from writers block. Don't get me wrong, I still love typing for you guys, writing stories, etc., but I just don't know what to say! That's kind of why I haven't been posting as frequently. LET THE BLOG CONTINUE!

Also, I'm thinking about closing down StorySpot, and just post any random poem on this blog. Vote in the poll or leave a comment if you back me up on this.

Oh, and by the way...

Keep your eye on the prize, doggie (=

Story Time!

I wrote this story for my English class.

My Fifteen Minutes of Fame
By Amelia R. McIntosh
“Hawes! Get your head in the game!” Mr. Peterson shouted at me. I turned my head to glare at him and a basketball flew into my face. One of the many reasons I hate PE, I thought. “What’d I tell you, Hawes?” He said, still referring to me using my last name.
“Seriously Aubree, I might just pass it to you when you’re not looking,” My friend Judy sarcastically added, knowing full well of my horrible athletic ability. She giggled and shouted, “Heads up!”
I ducked and put my hands in front of my face. Mr. Peterson blew the whistle and the class went to the locker rooms. “Typically when somebody shouts ‘heads up’, you put your hands up so you can catch the ball.” Judy said. She had a knack for sarcasm. The final bell rang, and school was out.
I walked toward the bus after school, and it started pouring rain. Judy rushed behind me, and held up her umbrella. I ducked to her side and mistakenly pile-dived her into the hedges lining the schoolyard. She laughed and shoved me onto the bus. We picked a seat in the middle so we wouldn’t be harassed by eighth graders. After all, we were just little “seveys” as they called us.

After a smelly ride home, Judy and I raced to my front door, and of course she won. “Aubree Hawes: zero! Judy Liu: every other time we’ve ever raced!” She bragged, doing her strange victory dance. I lightly punched her on the shoulder and opened my front door. My mom was sitting on my couch with her coffee cup brimming around her nose as she inhaled the bitter liquid.
“Sweetie,” She said, putting the mug on a coaster. “I have news for you.” She was giving me the creeps by how strange she was acting. I could tell it wasn’t anything bad, because she was using her, “I’m going to pretend something is wrong so I can scare Aubree, when the news I actually have is really awesome” look.
“You know how you said you wanted to be an actress when you were nine?” She said, a smile creeping onto her face. “Well, I got you a commercial booked! It’s for a local channel, and…” She shrieked excitedly, but her voice trailed off when she realized I was furious.
“Holy cow, MOM! I was nine for crying out loud! I don’t wanna to come within FIFTY FEET of doing that commercial!” I shouted. Judy was inching toward the door, and I could tell she wanted to head for the hills, so I nodded my head. She waved and ran away.
“But Aubree! I already booked it! It’s a commercial for The Metro! It’s your favorite store! Please do it for me! You have no idea how much I had to do so you could get this job! Please, sweetheart!” Mom whined. I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes. The Metro was my favorite store, but that doesn’t mean she can book a commercial without my permission!
I pursed my lips and stomped toward the kitchen. I heard mom get off the couch and follow me. I put a bag of popcorn in the microwave and pushed the popcorn button. My mother’s breathing bounced off my back as I watched my snack rotate in circles as the kernels popped.
“What time’s the audition?” I asked under my breath.

My mom’s Ford bounced along the road on the way to the local TV station. There were six other cars in the parking lot, one car I recognized as the host to the morning news. There was also a van with The Metro logo. It must have been the producer of the commercial. I went inside the studio with a scowl. My mom had to make a phone call, so she’d join me inside soon.
There was another girl in the waiting room and she looked so nervous, she could have been mistaken for someone headed for the chair. She had bright orange hair and was sitting on her left hand, biting her nails with the other. I sat next to her and said, “’Sup? I’m Aubree.” She glanced up at me and curved her lips up just the slightest.
“I’m Trinity,” she replied then looked at the wall facing away from me. She mumbled, “Good to meet you,” and went back to nail-biting. A producer came out of a room and tipped his fedora cap at us.
“Hello, all. My name is Robert Down and I’m your director. We’ll be seeing you both frequently, so let’s get down to it,” He said officially. Robert looked at his clipboard and continued. “Aubree Hawes will be playing the cool girl who shops at The Metro, and Trinity Oaks will be playing the nerd with poor fashion sense. But bada bing bada boom, Aubree helps Trinity out in the end by taking her to The metro and giving her a much needed makeover.”
I raised my left eyebrow but stood up and braced myself. “Find a new cool girl, Robbo, ‘cause this one is outta here!” I said. He gaped at me. “Good luck, Trinity,” I added as I walked out of the studio with a smile. That was easy, I thought to myself.
My mom was just getting out of the car as I was leaving the studio. “Aubree? You’re done already?” She asked climbing fully out and shutting the door.
I smiled and nodded. “Yep. Now let’s get home, shall we?” I said. Mother looked at me puzzled and mumbled a tiny “Okay…” I was done being an actress. After all, I want to keep my fifteen minutes of fame for something important, like a intense chase scene.
